Have you come to this page because you are concerned about self-esteem issues? Poor self-esteem can have many causes. Worries about appearance and body image are very common. Rejection by others, especially in love relationships or marriage can be very hurtful. Failure to form intimate relationships or to be successful in a career can be due to self-esteem issues or can lead to a drop in self-esteem. Often the judgement of a group of friends, colleagues, or managers can have a negative effect. For children and teenagers school can be an unhelpful environment with hurtful behaviour from students and teachers. On the other hand, we almost always know people who will help raise our self-esteem.
Very recently social networking on the Internet through sites such as Myspace.com and Facebook.com has allowed bullying and denigration which in the worst situations has led to suicides.
The roots of high or low self-esteem lie in the family we grew up in. Through psychotherapy we can come to understand how our family created us. Then we can work on creating a new self, to build and improve self-esteem. Counselling helps us cope with day to day living.
I believe that each person has great strengths and competencies and has the power to grow and change. Therapy provides somewhere where you can begin to see these strengths. You can change past patterns and unhelpful ways of thinking. In therapy you can boost self-esteem to create the person you want to be. Working with me you will never be judged or put down and will be able to move as gently or as quickly as you wish.
